Wessex Sculptors are a group of sculptors of all levels of experience based in the heart of the Hampshire countryside. We have use of a well-equipped studio, an outdoor working space and help and support from experienced sculptor, John Souter. Members work in a wide variety of methods and materials from modelling in clay, plaster, wire and ciment fondu to wood and stone carving and casting in resins. As a registered charity, our aim is to share our love of sculptural form and collective expertise in providing workshops and working within our local community.
Workshops are run both at our studio and for various organisations in Hampshire. We also enjoy working with organisations such as schools and art and sculpture societies, giving talks, workshops and demonstrations. Most popular are our carving workshops run by Wessex Sculptor members at our studio. Participants are shown how to use a variety of carving, drilling and sawing tools on thermalite blocks which are soft to carve, enabling participants to produce work in just one day. We also arrange workshops led by visiting artists to our studio which, historically, have covered a variety of different methods and techniques, such as anodising aluminium, willow weaving, life modelling and wire work. These are open to both members and non-members although places tend to be limited and there is often a waiting list.
