We have visited one of our local schools, Cheriton Primary School, on more than one occasion to show various sculpture techniques to the children at the school.  A delightful and receptive audience, we have shown them how to manipulate wire, how to mix and use plaster, what we can do with wood and papier maché techniques.  In 2015, after our first visit, we were delighted to receive an envelope full of thank you letters written by the children and are confident we have some budding sculptors in their midst.

Clay, wood and wire sculptors, members of Wessex Sculptors, were welcomed to Cheriton Primary School to demonstrate their skills to small groups of pupils. Throughout the morning all the children were able watch and listen to the individual artists and have a go at wire sculpting with Hilary Marchant, clay work with Jenny Willmot and observe David Knight wood carving. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to see that, unlike instant results generated by electronic gadgets, time and patience are needed to create a work of art. The three sculptors were thanked most warmly by staff and children for sharing their expertise and generously giving their time to visit the school.
