Giles Summerhays enjoys making narrative ceramics working either with low fired Raku or high fired stoneware, particularly porcelain. He likes to use parody, satire, irony and metaphor to create meaning.
Narrative sculpture is an outlet for the frustration he feels about the state of the world; abuse of power; inequality; social mores; misuse of our environment. While some of the issues are serious, ridicule and even pillory are often used to puncture the veneer of pomposity exhibited by certain political figures. The result is frequently irreverent, scatological, and sometimes humorous.
