Jill studied at Southampton University as a mature student and gained a BA (Hons) degree in Archaeology. She has worked on many archaeological projects both in England and in Egypt, Ethiopia and Eritrea, specialising in the survey and study of ancient quarries. During her time in Egypt surveying the Roman Porphyry quarry complex at Mons Porphyrites in the Eastern Desert she learnt first hand of the skills needed to carve rock with limited equipment. Visiting Tout Quarry in Portland on her return she became interested in stone carving.
Now working with a variety of different mediums, she is influenced by archaeology and her work in East Africa.
