Marie Ashman

Marie has spent most of her life drawing and painting, having also taught art. She works from her studio at home in Cheriton. She enjoys working in oils most of all.

Her work involves incorporating words into the design, finding literary references that add to the original concept. She admires the work of Tom Phillips in particular. She often works to commission, enjoying the challenges this brings. This can include specific locations, portraits and themes. These can be large scale and may take the form of multiple images in diptych or triptych formats and are housed across the country.

The demands of moving from two dimensions on canvas to also working in three dimensions in sculpture is proving to be most interesting. She joined Wessex Sculptors in 2013.
