On Saturday 15 March, experienced wood carver Alex Jones will be coming to our studio to conduct a wood carving workshop. After graduating from City & Guilds Art College in London in 1991, Alex Jones spent a year as an apprentice to Peter Turing, a woodcarver in West Sussex. He has been based in Winchester since 1992 working mainly on private commissions and public exhibitions using his work to challenge people’s perceptions about the natural world around them.
Find a piece of wood in which you can see a beast waiting to be released! it could be
drift wood or any other dry log that is interesting or inspiring for you to transform into a beautiful
sculpture. Alex will help you to see the bumps and knots as potential eyes or claws.
Much of the work may be done outside under a gazebo, so please bring suitable clothing
